Since 2009
We started with one rack of wooden toys in a Bristol side street, and the buying rule has not changed since: if we wouldn't give it to our own children, it doesn't go on the shelf.
Every product here has been through the same three tests. One of us plays with it. One of us tries to break it. And then it goes home with a family we know for a fortnight, and we ask them honestly whether it got played with after the first day.
Most things fail that last test. The ones that pass are the ones you see on this site — about a third of what we are offered in a year.
We work with thirty-one small makers, most of them in Britain and the rest in Europe, and we pay them on fourteen-day terms because that is what keeps small workshops open.

Everything is tested to EN 71-1, -2 and -3 and carries a UKCA mark. We keep the test certificates for every batch, not every product line — the distinction matters, and it is the reason we occasionally pull something from sale.
If you ever want to see the paperwork for something you have bought, email us the order number and we will send it over the same day.
